Design Introduction - Design Fundamentals

Description

This guide is called the Design Introduction, and now that we know a thing or two about Figma we can move on to more theoretical stuff. In this Guide we are going to learn about strategy, structure, and making a statement, and understanding what looks good and why it works, a unique blend of functionality and visual appeal. Here are a couple of strategy's to always keep in mind when working on design:

  • Elements of Design: These are the foundational blocks every designer starts with. From the lines that guide the eye, to the colors that evoke a certain mood, they're the basic ingredients in every design recipe.
  • Principles of Design: Think of these as the guidelines. They help structure the way we use our elements, ensuring our designs aren’t just eye-catching, but also clear and cohesive.
  • Typography: Beyond just picking fonts, typography is about conveying information in the most visually effective way.
  • Color Theory: Colors can speak volumes. knowing how they can be combined can help us create a visual impact of emotion, culture, and hierarchy on our page.

Design is a wide topic and we are just beginning to scratch the surface, but the really good thing to do is to go on websites like awwwards.com and take 5 min everyday looking at the designs and train our eyes to get used to layouts and structures, that way we get better everyday.
